Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that seeking behavioral health services can feel overwhelming. The questions below are among the most common we receive from clients, families, and referral partners. If you don’t see your question answered here, please don’t hesitate to contact our team — we’re here to help.
What is behavioral health, and how is it different from mental health?
Behavioral health is a broader term that encompasses both mental health treatment and substance use disorder services. It also considers how daily behaviors — such as sleep patterns, diet, exercise, and stress responses — affect overall physical and psychological health. Mental health is one important component of behavioral health, but at Legacy Impact, we take a whole-person approach that integrates all of these dimensions.
Legacy Impact serves children, adolescents, adults, and older adults in California who are experiencing mental health conditions, substance use disorders, or co-occurring disorders. Eligibility for specific programs varies based on clinical need and insurance coverage. Contact our intake team for a free eligibility screening.
Yes. Legacy Impact accepts Medi-Cal (California Medicaid) for most of our services. We also work with many private insurance providers. Our administrative team will verify your insurance benefits before services begin so there are no surprises.
Several of our programs — including IHBT and CPST — are specifically designed to be delivered in the client’s home and community. We bring care to you, which reduces transportation barriers and allows our clinicians to address challenges in the real-life environments where they occur.
Your initial assessment is a confidential conversation with one of our licensed clinicians. We’ll ask about your mental health history, current symptoms, daily functioning, substance use (if applicable), and personal goals. This allows us to recommend the most appropriate services and begin building your individualized care plan. The assessment typically takes 60 to 90 minutes.
Yes. All services at Legacy Impact are strictly confidential and protected under HIPAA privacy regulations. We will not share any information about your care without your written consent, except in circumstances required by law — such as imminent risk of harm to yourself or others.
The duration of treatment varies significantly based on the service type, your clinical needs, and your individual progress. Some programs, like TBS, are short-term and goal-specific. Others, like CPST or PSR, may continue for a longer period as part of ongoing psychiatric maintenance. Your care team will discuss realistic timelines with you during your assessment.
Absolutely. Family involvement is strongly encouraged and, in many of our programs, it is an integral part of treatment. We offer family education, parent training, and caregiver support — because we know that recovery is stronger when the people around you are informed, engaged, and equipped.
If you or someone you know is experiencing a psychiatric emergency, please call 988 (the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or 911 immediately. If you are a current Legacy Impact client, please contact your case manager or our emergency line. Our team is trained in crisis stabilization and can help coordinate appropriate emergency care.
